About the Artist
Cody Hale is an accomplished visual artist and designer from Murfreesboro, Tennessee. With over 17 years of experience as a marketing and design manager, Cody has successfully used his expertise to design creative marketing campaigns and materials for video, web, and print. He has also made a name for himself as a freelance artist, exhibiting and selling work at numerous art shows and galleries, and his art has been featured in advertising campaigns, editorial pieces, and awareness events. His skill has been recognized with awards such as best of show at juried events and the Ruthies Award for Rutherford County’s favorite artist. Cody earned his B.F.A. in illustration from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2005 and currently lives and works in Nashville, TN.
Artist Statement
I use a combination of ink and spray paint to create heavily layered pieces, featuring textural and tonal shifts, and bold contrasts in value. I employ the technique of controlled splattering with a toothbrush to give my work detailed imagery and a unique visual character. My pieces are often informed by popular culture and are intended to spark a dialogue about the unknown and mysterious, often with a satirical approach. Through my art, I hope to create an experience that challenges viewers to confront their preconceived notions and encourages them to contemplate the deeper meanings of the things that surround them.
