About the Artist
Cody Hale is a contemporary artist currently based in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. He earned a B.F.A. in Illustration from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2005 and has been participating in art shows and working as a freelance artist for over 12 years. His artwork is mostly ink on illustration board, and his signature style consists of heavily-layered splatter textures, strong contrasting values, and limited color palettes.
My artistic technique utilizes common household toothbrushes to render images with layers of splattered ink. Inspired by trends in popular culture and imagery from vintage cinema, I depict my impressions of a fantasy world through splatter. I am interested in both the unpredictability of organic textures and the clarity of detailed renderings. Artistic interests have inspired me to develop a technique that controls the organic process of splattering ink to render recognizable imagery based on themes from popular culture.
